ABOUT
The Powerlifting Association of Papua New Guinea—officially known as the Papua New Guinea Powerlifting Federation—is the national governing body responsible for promoting and organizing the sport of powerlifting across the country. As a recognized member of the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Federation, the association oversees the development of athletes, coordinates local competitions, and represents Papua New Guinea in regional and international powerlifting events. Its administrative base is in Boroko, Port Moresby, where it serves as the central contact point for athletes, coaches, and officials involved in the sport.
Under its auspices, Papua New Guinea’s powerlifters have competed with distinction in various Pacific and Oceania championships, often contributing medals to the nation’s sporting achievements. PNG lifters have historically excelled in major meets, with both male and female athletes securing podium finishes and demonstrating the country’s potential in strength sports. These performances not only highlight individual dedication but also underscore the federation’s efforts to nurture talent and elevate the national standard of competition.
Despite these successes, stakeholders within the sport continue to advocate for increased support, infrastructure, and opportunities for upcoming powerlifters. Athletes and coaches alike emphasize the need for more facilities, funding, and regular competitive platforms to further grow the sport domestically and strengthen Papua New Guinea’s presence on the global powerlifting stage. As the federation works to expand its reach, it remains a key contributor to PNG’s broader sporting community and a pathway for athletes aiming for excellence through strength, discipline, and competitive ambition.
